Dusty Tales- The Charcoal Factory of Kuala Sepetang is a short film we made of the peaceful town and the rigorous work it takes to harvest mangrove and turn them into charcoal.
Most people here in Malaysia will remember the gentle warmth of the charcoal fire and the aroma that precedes a delicious traditional breakfast.
Well, it’s time you knew where the charcoal that roast your coffee and toast your kaya-butter sandwich come from.
This is a pet project that I shot during a Sony organized field trip with my students.
Most of the film was shot with the Sony A99. Two other clips in the film was shot with an A57, which was mounted onto a Skyler Minicam stabilizer.
We edited the film and color graded all shots with Edius. The fantastic thing about Edius is its ability to accept almost any video format and happily play it in realtime with any rendering/transcoding. We just had to concern ourselves with crafting our little film.
